Research at the Intersection of Life Sciences and Society
Advances in the life sciences seem to challenge our basic understanding of essential human values such as life, death, freedom, and choice. There is an important need to study the interface between the public sphere and research in the life sciences. This is done through the use of community participatory research methodologies, combined with the development of educational programs and tools that will draw together the questions of life science, social science, and the humanities. In addition, advancing technologies are beginning to transform the relationship between the business of science and the practice of health care. LSS is committed to identifying and supporting students, faculty, and community groups doing research in these arenas and enhancing their work by developing networks of support and interdisciplinary dialogue.
